Approach

Our treatment approach is guided by the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB).  A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will develop individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSP) based on parent interview and clinical child observations. The BSP is developed to provide parents with proactive strategies, replacement skills, and reinforcers. Guidance and support will be provided by Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and behavior therapists as needed.

At SLS believe that every child, regardless of their disability, or deficits, can make progress. We believe that a team Trans disciplinary approach utilizing principles of ABA, consultation and support from Behavioral Specialists and Speech-Language Pathologist and involved parents, consistently results in positive outcomes for our clients.

Verbal Behavior

Verbal Behavior (VB) uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis while incorporating the work of B.F. Skinner.  The focus of Verbal Behavior is the importance of teaching language as a skill that can be used in many different ways across the varied situations that life demands.  Verbal Behavior insures that learners become fluent in all aspects of the use of language by teaching across a wide variety of activities and settings.  Through interactive play and lively teaching sessions, children learn to communicate by experiencing the use of language as an integral component of activities as well as a skill that is necessary when functional needs arise.  Verbal Behavior values natural environment teaching as the most important component – skills are not “mastered” until a child can use them effectively in the real world.
