Q: How do I get started?
A: We offer a 30 minute consultation to meet with parents and child to discuss concerns, child's history and child's strengths and weaknesses. From this meeting recommendations regarding therapy will be given.
Q: What is the age range of children you work with?
A: We primarily work with children ranging from 2 to 16 years of age. However we do offer services for adults.
Q: How do I know if my child’s language skills are age appropriate?
A: All children develop at their own rate. There are developmental milestones that can be used as a guideline. Click here for developmental guidelines.

Q: What are some signs of an articulation disorder?

A: An articulation disorder involves problems making sounds. Sounds can be substituted, left off, added or changed. These errors may make it hard for people to understand you.

Young children often make speech errors. For instance, many young children sound like they are making a "w" sound for an "r" sound (e.g., "wabbit" for "rabbit") or may leave sounds out of words, such as "nana" for "banana." The child may have an articulation disorder if these errors continue past the expected age.

Q: Does SLS accept insurance?
A: Speech and Language Specialties is currently providers for Blue Cross Blue Shield and Harvard Pilgrim. We recommend that you fax or send via email a copy of your insurance card front and back before initial appointment in order to determine service coverage. For those with other insurances we are unable to bill insurance plans directly. However, our monthly invoices provide both a billing code (CPT) and diagnosis code (if provided by your child’s physician). You can submit these invoices to your insurance provider for reimbursement, as many plans will reimburse for group speech therapy by a licensed speech and language pathologist. Please contact your insurance provider directly to establish whether you are eligible for reimbursement. For more information follow this link.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Speech and Language Specialties is dedicated to providing services to our clients. We must stress that consistency of attendance is crucial in order for clients to effectively meet the goals of their treatment plan. In addition, therapy time is specifically reserved for your family and is unavailable for other clients.

We are sensitive to the needs faced by the families of our clients however; it is necessary for us to enforce a cancellation policy. Except in cases of emergency or sudden illness, appointments not cancelled 24 hours in advance will result in a charge as though the appointment was held. We look forward to a positive relationship to you, as we strive to provide quality treatment.
